Fall: The Harvest! 

In the Fall we focus on the harvest, cooking, and preserving food. We clean up the garden after summer and prepare the soil for dormancy. We learn about sprouting seeds indoors for winter. We plan the layout next year’s garden, taking sunlight, water flow and ease of access into account. We learn plant identification and do some urban foraging.

This fall we’ll be starting up our chicken coop, so the students will help build an outdoor pen, insulate the coop, and introduce the pullets. Visiting artists. musicians, and all types of crafters come to teach us their skills.

In all of our work we integrate art and play. Field trips to urban farms, museums, and the Arnold Arboretum are a regular feature of the programs. Every course includes at least one day in the woods at Ponkapoag AMC in Canton, where we swim and hike.
